Sun Allergy

If you get an occasional rash on your body, then the chances that you are allergic to something is pretty high. If you have a lupus, it means that your body and skin have an allergic type reaction to the sun. There are multiple types of skin rashes that are caused by exposure to the sun, but a lupus rash is a fairly serious condition that you need to understand.

Acute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus is a type of lupus that usually effects an individual by appearing along the face and bride of the nose. It will usually go away within a few days but it can stay for weeks, and will often leave lesions and other marks all over the body. Subacute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus is another of the lupus rashes that can occur anywhere on the body but will also be found commonly on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet.

Chronic Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus is a type of lupus rash that will involve scaly lesions occurring throughout the body and while they start as slightly elevated marks, will rise and grow over time into a bright red lesion. The lesion will oftentimes scar and can distort the pigmentation of the individual. If the lupus rash occurred in the scalp, it can lead to the hair not growing back as well.

A lupus rash can also come in a few other less severe cases, such as Lupus Panniculitis, Bullous Lupus Erythematosus, or Neonatal Lupus. Lupus Panniculitis looks like a lesion that is deep below the skin and will heal with a deep atrophy of the associated region. Bullous lupus erythematosus is sometimes associated with a burning sensation around the lesions and may leave quickly, but it often returns without warning. Neonatal lupus is a rash that is seen in newborn babies and can come whether the mother has lupus or not.

These types of lupus rashes are very important to understand and distinguish from each other as well because the treatment of each may differ. You also need to understand how they may affect you so that you can avoid some of the most common triggers for each one.
